Mental Health Awareness Week 2023

We are proud to be supporting the 23rd Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) from 15th to 21st May, which is hosted by the Mental Health Foundation. This year the theme is anxiety, with the aim being to increase people’s awareness and understanding of this common mental health problem.

There are many things in life that can lead to people feeling anxious, such as underperforming at work, starting a new job, and financial issues. For some, anxiety can be debilitating, with the Mental Health Foundation stating that six in ten adults feel so anxious that it stops them from doing the things they want to some or all of the time. However, with the right treatment and support, anxiety can be made easier to manage.

We encourage employers to promote MHAW and raise awareness of mental health amongst staff by hosting a ‘Wear it Green Day’, arranging a fundraiser for a mental health charity, or simply displaying posters and sharing information with employees. You may also review your approach to mental health within the business; would you benefit from Mental Health First Aiders, or awareness workshops? The Mental Health Foundation has a wealth of downloadable resources and information available on their website which you can use. Remember to share your efforts on social media this week with the hashtag #ToHelpMyAnxiety.

Mental health is just as important as, and goes hand in hand with, physical health. So, this week we should all make an effort to talk about mental health, help break the stigma, familiarise ourselves what anxiety looks like, and how it can be managed.
